The company, FIJI Water, was founded on the island of Fiji in 1996. One year later, the company began shipping bottled water to the U.S. In 2004, the company received the Secretary of State’s Award for Corporate Excellence. A few years later in 2006, FIJI Water achieved its first million-case month in May. In 2007, the company achieved three main milestones.
First, the company is named the #1-selling premium bottled water.
Second, Chicago magazine names FIJI Water the best-tasting bottled water.
Lastly, the FIJI Water Foundation was created to support philanthropic efforts that are focused on health care, education and clean water.
By 2009, FIJI’s water was available in over 40 countries worldwide (Company Timeline). The company’s has a clear mission: “FIJI Water, the world’s finest water, is committed to quality and excellence in our product, people, profitability, and strategic partners. We are dedicated to communicating the passion and unique properties of our brand to consumers worldwide and continuing to invest in the future while preserving and cherishing the pristine source (Company Timeline).”
FIJI has a unique, one-of-a-kind production process. Its state-of-the-art bottling facility is built directly atop the aquifer in the Yaqara Valley. The entire facility was designed in a way that protects the purity of the water throughout the entire process, from the aquifer all the way into the bottle.
The delivery system is completely sealed and extracts the water from a protected chamber and directs it straight into the iconic square bottles, which are made of the highest-grade terephthalate (PET) plastic resin. Until a consumer unscrews the cap, the water has never been exposed to air or human contact; and no other bottled water company can hold that claim (Untouched by Man, The Aquifer).
